Choose a clear priority, add endurance you can recover from, and adjust the week to how you feel. Three time budgets should not become three scaled copies of the same plan.
What does more available time actually change?
At three hours, simplicity helps: fewer sessions and a clear purpose for each. At five hours, more easy endurance can support the sustained work. At seven hours, longer easy rides can fit without making every session demanding. These budgets describe options for riders already accustomed to the corresponding volume.
The table is an organisational example, not a three-week progression from three to seven hours. Choose the row that resembles your recent riding. If your available days are consecutive, reduce the number of hard sessions instead of forcing them into the calendar.

Threshold, VO₂ and endurance have different jobs
Threshold work develops controlled sustained efforts. Finishing the last block with good technique is a useful guide. VO₂ sessions use shorter, more demanding efforts, making repetition quality and recovery particularly important. Easy endurance adds riding time without turning each outing into a test.
You do not need every session family in every week. The choice depends on your goal, the work already completed and your recovery opportunities. An apparently easy session can be the right choice when it preserves an important workout two days later.
Track more than the FTP number
Compare efforts recorded with the same power meter under similar conditions. A higher result in one test may also reflect a different protocol, better pacing or fresher legs. Check whether the new power becomes easier to repeat in your usual sessions.
Keep a few simple observations: power during the blocks, perceived effort, your ability to finish the ride and next-day recovery. If FTP stays flat but repeated efforts become more manageable, the test may not capture all your progress. If the number rises while workouts become impossible to finish, check whether it is a useful training reference.
When FTP stalls, do not start by adding another workout
Review the previous weeks. Did you actually complete the planned sessions? Did easy rides turn into races? Did your busiest workdays coincide with the hardest training? Did equipment or the testing protocol change? These answers often provide a more useful next step than a new programme.
If fatigue persists, reduce the workload first. If weeks are inconsistent, simplify them. If training is consistent and well recovered, change one part of the stimulus and observe several weeks. No calculator can guarantee an individual improvement of ten, twenty or thirty watts.
Build around your actual schedule
Try the generator with your real slots and recent riding volume. Seven available hours may produce a shorter preview when that exceeds the amount you report riding habitually. The difference is intentional.

No individual gain is guaranteed. Starting fitness, training history, recovery and the testing method all affect the result.
Should I follow an exact 80/20 split with three hours?
A percentage alone does not describe session content or fatigue. Start with executable sessions, enough recovery and easy riding appropriate to your circumstances.
